Iona Quickfall is a children’s author with a passion for permaculture and the natural world. Her debut book, The Morffledoos’ Adventure, explores themes of sustainability, growing food, plants as medicine, and caring for the earth.
Inspired by a lifelong love of nature, Iona has completed a Permaculture Design Certificate and an Introduction to Children in Permaculture, and is currently studying for a Diploma in Applied Permaculture.
When not writing, she tends to her three young boys, works in her local primary school garden, and nurtures her own whenever time allows.
Laura Jackson worked on The Morffledoos' Adventure from September to December 2025, and her magical illustrations brought the story to life.
Laura is the co-author and illustrator of the children’s series Badger the Mystical Mutt. She has toured more than 1,500 schools, libraries, and book festivals with Lyn McNicol, culminating in the BBC radio documentary Mystical Mutt by Dabster Productions.
Her illustration work includes commissions for BBC Scotland, Trusthouse Forte, Lomond Books, the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, and Partnerships for Wellbeing. She was also invited to be an artist for BBC Scotland’s Restoration. During lockdown, she co-created Tales from Ochwinnay and Gabriel’s Dilemmas.
An editor since 1993, both in-house and freelance, in the UK and Hong Kong, Gale works with traditional publishers, self-publishing authors and private individuals, as well as providing coaching and training for authors, editors, publishing organizations and businesses.
Gale's speciality is fiction (adult, children’s and young adult). She also works on general and narrative non-fiction, as well as illustrated children’s fiction and picture books. In addition, she provides training and consultancy to both authors and editors.
My patient and loving husband has supported me throughout the entire journey, from the first spark of an idea in 2024 to the book launch in 2026, offering encouragement and thoughtful reviews along the way.
Our boys have been just as supportive, amazed that a simple story could grow into a real book. During the busiest writing days, they picked up new skills too—learning how to make eggy bread, fry eggs on toast, and even load the washing machine.
